It's been a while since anything was updated regarding the metal scene in this blog.
A recap of previous events:
Sanitarium.
Resurrection 1 and 2 at Tabasco Charlies.
Battle of The Bands 2011.
And yesterday we had the Dorakk Festival 2011 at the Lost Paradise of Dilmun. It was a pleasure to attend as a part of the audience, and an honor to be part of the press writing about such an event.
Yes, I am part of the media now, which gives me a chance to set the record straight about Rock and Metal. Ever since the Palace Inn incident, I was dreaming of a moment where I can finally spread the truth about this music we love so much. It is indeed our passion.
Speaking to JustUs' Guitarist Jebin, he said: "People just can't accept the fact that we have day jobs and lead normal lives just like everyone else, and play or attend metal concerts at the same time." They pretty much have a twisted idea of a Metalhead here in Bahrain, as well as parts of the Gulf.
Checking out Bahraini forums gave me some useful insight about what they really think about us. For a person who claims that Bahrainis are "Open Minded", I had to rethink. Apparently they're pen to everything except Metal. Hypocrisy at its finest. Either that or we intimidate them so much with our overflowing passion for this genre of music.
Metal fans are dedicated. So dedicated that they wouldn't give up on this tiny island of close minded individuals.
Metal has triumphed over many obstacles this year, and we're just getting started.
Omar Abdulaziz, a die-hard metal fan explained that he was looking forward to finally creating this event and making it work. His wait lasted for over a year. With Dorakk, his efforts and the efforts of the organizers certainly didn't go to waste. Yes, it was expected that the crowd would reach at least 300 people, but maybe the ticket prices were over the top, and considering the difficult circumstances that Bahrain is going through, the crowd did not reach the expected number.
Another side that needs to be enhanced is the number of female headbangers that actually have the guts to attend and headbang in a concert. Some girls show up with their stripper heals and sit around like they're in a picnic! THAT was hideous!
With that said, Dorakk still counts as a successful show of talent and passion. And personally, I would love more events that support the metal scene in Bahrain.
THE SCENE IS COMING TO LIFE!
